UV rods were devised under the aspect of optimum light collection. Where as strings are usually activated using UV lamps or beamers, rod pigments change or collect invisible light (UV light) to visible light. This is particularly visible at dusk when visible sunlight fades but UV light is still present.
Using a hot air fan they can be bent into writings and other forms. This is possible in the form of neon or with ends already turned back to fit readily into a back sheet. Frequently objects are bent using rods, mostly imitating neon.
Many everyday commodities, like jewellery, can be fashioned from them, ranging all the way to small furniture.
